The Chinese Valentine’s day, originally called as Qixi Festival and also known as Double Seventh Festival, Seventh Evening Festival or Night of Sevens, is a Chinese traditional festival celebrated on the night of seventh day of the seventh month on the Chinese lunar calendar every year. This year, in 2019 the day is coming on the 7th of August, which is not too far!

This festival is to mark the annual meeting of the cowherd and the weaver girl in mythology. The event is seen as Young Girls’ Festival and Qiqiao Festival, literally meaning the Ingenuity-Begging Festival. Because of the beautiful legend about Niu Lang and Zhi Nu, the festival has been endowed with the meaning of great romance.

Though the traditional way of celebrations as in the ancient days is not seen today, the legend of Niu Lang and Zhi Nu is still passed down from generation to generation. Like the presents of Valentine’s Day, flowers and chocolates are also the popular ones. Whatever way the festival is spent, great love is expressed between the young.
