Serangoon Saffron

Serangoon on a Saturday evening, when the whole family lands at the same table and someone has already opened the mooncakes. This is the arrangement for that table. One tall spike of yellow cymbidium orchid stands up out of a low glass vase, with orange spray roses and two big white chrysanthemums tucked in at the base and fern fanning out behind.

It sits low enough to talk over and tall enough to be noticed from the door. Send it ahead of reunion dinner and it is on the table before the first tea is poured.
