Exceptional service recovery and customer care! Recently ordered a floral centrepiece for a significant milestone event, and while there was initially a hiccup, the Singapore Florist team went above and beyond to make it right.

Ordered a bouquet for a friend's birthday and the delivery was right on time. Stems were fresh, the wrap was elegant, and the recipient sent me photos within an hour to thank me. Would order again without hesitation.

Carnations, the flower that quietly outlasts everything else

Carnations do not get the attention roses or peonies do, but they should. They last 7 to 14 days in Singapore humidity (double what most cut flowers manage), they carry deep cultural meaning across Mother's Day, sympathy, and gratitude, and they are one of the most budget-honest flowers the Singapore Florist studio stocks. We have been arranging carnation bouquets since 1987, and they are consistently in our top 5 most-ordered collections through May every year for Mother's Day. Outside of May, carnations quietly show up in sympathy arrangements, grandmother birthdays, and the hand-posies that corporate clients send to hospital patients.

The reason carnations outlast other cut flowers in Singapore comes down to the structure of the flower itself. Carnation stems are woody rather than soft, which means they resist the bacterial decay that kills softer-stemmed flowers in humid tropical conditions. The petals are tightly layered rather than open-faced, which protects the bloom from heat damage. And carnation varieties grown in Kenya and Colombia for the Singapore market are specifically bred for vase life, not just appearance. Put all of that together and you get a bouquet that holds its shape for two weeks instead of five days.

The colours each carry specific meanings. Pink carnations for a mother's love (the reason pink is the Mother's Day flower across East Asia and Southeast Asia). White carnations for pure love, remembrance, and sympathy. Red carnations for admiration and deep affection. Yellow carnations for thank-you or encouragement. And the two-tone flecked varieties (often called fancy carnations) for customers who want something visually distinctive. We source carnations from Kenya and Colombia for the large-head premium tier and from Cameron Highlands for the more affordable everyday tier. Pricing runs from SGD 58 for the 10-stem wraps to SGD 188 for the premium large-head 20-stem boxes, with most orders landing in the SGD 78 to SGD 108 range. For Mother's Day specifically, see our Mother's Day collection.

How we condition carnations for the full 14-day vase life

The 14-day claim is not a marketing number. It is based on what happens when you follow a specific conditioning and care routine. In the studio, carnation stems are cut at a 45-degree angle, lower leaves are removed, and each stem is placed in a nutrient solution for 12 to 24 hours before arranging. This hydration window is critical because carnations have woody stems that take longer to absorb water than roses or tulips. For the recipient, the routine is: re-cut the stems every 3 to 4 days, change the water completely (not just top up) every 2 to 3 days, remove any leaves sitting below the water line, and keep the vase out of direct sunlight and strong aircon. Following this routine, 14 days is consistently reachable. Read our carnation care guide (7 tips to keep them fresh longer) for the full routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do carnations last once delivered in Singapore?

7 to 14 days with proper care. Carnations are one of the longest-lasting cut flowers you can buy in Singapore. To get the full 14 days: re-cut the stems at a 45-degree angle, change the water every 2 to 3 days, remove any leaves sitting below the water line, and keep the vase away from direct sunlight and strong aircon.

What do the different carnation colours mean?

Pink: a mother's love (the reason pink carnations are the Mother's Day flower across East Asia). White: pure love and remembrance (often used at funerals and memorials). Red: admiration and deep affection. Yellow: thank-you, encouragement, or friendship. Striped or two-tone: I cannot be with you, or a regretful answer. The meaning is strong enough that colour choice matters, especially for sympathy bouquets.

Are carnations a good Mother's Day gift in Singapore?

Yes, historically the best one. Pink carnations are the traditional Mother's Day flower in Singapore, rooted in the symbolism of a mother's everlasting love. A Mother's Day carnation bouquet from this collection is one of the safest and most meaningful gifts you can send. Browse our Mother's Day collection for the full range built around carnations.

Can I order a mixed carnation and rose bouquet?

Yes. Mixed carnation-and-rose bouquets work especially well for Mother's Day and anniversaries where you want the long vase life of carnations combined with the romantic weight of roses. WhatsApp us with your preferred ratio and colour palette and we will build a custom quote within a few hours.

Do you deliver carnation bouquets for funerals and sympathy occasions?

Yes. For sympathy we recommend all-white or white-with-pale-pink carnation arrangements, which carry the traditional meaning of remembrance and pure love. For full funeral wreaths and stands, see our condolence wreaths collection. For sympathy hand-bouquets that can be sent to a family home, the carnation arrangements on this page are appropriate.
