Ginger flower for tropical sculptural arrangements
Torch ginger (Etlingera elatior) is the second most distinctively Southeast Asian flower we stock, after the orchid. Native to Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, the torch ginger produces a dramatic pink or red waxy bloom shaped like a pinecone, typically 60cm to 100cm tall when cut as a stem. The Singapore Florist studio sources ginger flower from Malaysian and Thai growers and stocks it year-round, with availability spiking during the warm season when local production peaks. It is popular for tropical event styling, modern hotel lobby arrangements, restaurant interiors, and the kind of recipient who appreciates Southeast Asian flora over imported European cuts.
The visual identity of a ginger flower arrangement is bold tropical sculpture. Like Bird of Paradise, ginger flower is best displayed simply: 1 to 3 stems in a tall vase, paired with broad tropical leaves rather than competing flowers. The pink or red bloom is the focal point and other flowers tend to dilute it. Most of our ginger flower orders go to corporate clients (hotel and restaurant interior design, event styling) or to recipients who specifically request Southeast Asian flowers for cultural or aesthetic reasons. They are not common as romantic gifts because the look is too bold for traditional gifting, but they make exceptional statement arrangements for modern home decor.
Pricing starts at SGD 98 for the single-stem wrap and reaches SGD 288 for the premium 3-stem arrangement with tropical foliage. Most orders land in the SGD 128 to SGD 178 range. Every bouquet ships free islandwide, includes a handwritten card, and arrives same-day for orders before 12pm. For other sculptural tropical flowers, browse the Bird of Paradise collection or the special flowers collection. For corporate event styling that combines multiple tropical stems, see our wedding decor service which also handles non-wedding event florals. How to care for cut ginger flower stems in Singapore homes
Cut ginger flower has a longer vase life than most flowers we stock, easily 10 to 14 days with minimal care. The waxy bloom is naturally resistant to humidity and heat (it evolved in tropical rainforests), and the stem is fibrous and woody which holds water well. Care routine: re-cut the stem at a 45-degree angle when you receive it, place in a tall narrow vase with 15 to 20cm of water, change the water every 4 to 5 days, and keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight to preserve the bloom colour. Unlike rose bouquets, ginger flower does not need nutrient water or daily fussing. Every stem in this collection is conditioned in nutrient water for 24 hours before delivery to set up the long vase life.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do cut ginger flower stems last?
10 to 14 days with simple care, longer than most cut flowers. The waxy bloom and fibrous stem are naturally resilient in Singapore's tropical climate. Care: re-cut stem, change water every 4 to 5 days, avoid direct sunlight.
Are ginger flowers safe to display indoors with pets or children?
Yes. Torch ginger flowers are non-toxic to humans and most pets. They have no strong scent and no allergens. Safe for any indoor environment including homes with cats, dogs, or small children.
Can I order ginger flower for an Asian-themed wedding or event?
Yes, ginger flower is increasingly popular for Asian-themed weddings, modern Peranakan ceremonies, and tropical destination weddings in Singapore and the region. We can build large multi-stem arrangements for ceremony backdrops or table centerpieces. Use our wedding decor service for full event styling quotes.
What colours does ginger flower come in?
The most common is bright pink (the classic torch ginger). We also stock deep red and a paler pink-cream variant called porcelain ginger. White ginger is a different species (Hedychium) and we stock it occasionally as a fragrant alternative. WhatsApp us for current availability.
Is ginger flower related to the cooking ginger I buy at the market?
Yes, they are botanical relatives in the same plant family (Zingiberaceae). Torch ginger is grown as an ornamental flower while culinary ginger is grown for the rhizome. The torch ginger flower itself is also used in some traditional Southeast Asian dishes (notably laksa and rojak) for its tangy aromatic flavour.
