Iris flowers, the elegant European bloom for Singapore gifting

Iris is one of the most elegant cut flowers in the European floral tradition, named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow because of its colour range from deep purple to pale yellow to white. The Singapore Florist studio imports iris from Dutch growers (the world centre of iris production) with shipments arriving twice a week. They are not as commonly ordered in Singapore as roses or orchids, which is part of their appeal: an iris bouquet feels distinctly European and unexpected, suitable for recipients who appreciate something less obvious. They are popular for art gallery openings, sophisticated birthday gifts, and recipients who specifically request European flowers.

The visual identity of an iris bouquet is delicate elegance. Each stem has 1 to 3 large delicate blooms with three upright petals (called standards) and three downward-facing petals (called falls). The most-ordered colour is the classic deep purple, followed by pale blue, white, and the rare yellow variants. We typically arrange iris in loose hand-tied bundles rather than tight rounds because the delicate petal structure looks better with breathing room. They pair beautifully with sprigs of fresh greenery (eucalyptus or ruscus) and with white roses or peonies for a classic European garden bouquet.

Pricing starts at SGD 98 for the 6-stem wrap and reaches SGD 288 for the 18-stem premium arrangement. Most orders land in the SGD 128 to SGD 168 range. Every bouquet ships free islandwide, includes a handwritten card, and arrives same-day for orders before 12pm if iris is in stock that morning. Because iris is imported and arrives on a weekly schedule, availability is occasionally limited. For more reliably stocked European-style flowers, browse our rose collection or read our guide to flower meanings. Read more in our guides to number of roses meaning and how long roses last.

How we condition imported iris stems for maximum vase life

Iris is one of the more delicate cut flowers we stock, and it benefits significantly from careful conditioning. When the shipment arrives from the Netherlands (typically Tuesday and Friday mornings), the stems are still mostly closed buds. We trim each stem at a 45-degree angle, strip the lower foliage, and place the stems in cool nutrient water with a small amount of flower food. Over the next 24 to 48 hours, the buds gradually open into the full iris shape. Every stem in this collection is conditioned for at least 24 hours before being arranged into a bouquet, so the iris you receive is at peak openness. Vase life after delivery is typically 5 to 7 days, slightly shorter than roses because of the delicate petal structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does iris flower symbolise?

Hope, wisdom, courage, and admiration in classical European flower language. The name comes from the Greek goddess Iris (messenger of the gods, associated with the rainbow), reflecting the iris flower's wide colour range. In modern gifting, iris is associated with sophistication and elegant taste rather than romantic love.

How long do iris bouquets last in Singapore?

5 to 7 days with proper care. Iris is slightly more delicate than roses or orchids because of its open petal structure. Care: re-cut stems, change water every 2 days, keep out of direct sunlight and strong aircon. The buds will continue opening over the first 24 to 48 hours after delivery.

Are iris flowers always available, or are they seasonal?

Available year-round through our Dutch import suppliers, but availability varies week to week depending on the European shipment schedule. For guaranteed availability, order 3 to 5 days in advance. WhatsApp us if you need iris on a specific date and we will confirm stock.

What is the most popular iris colour for gifting in Singapore?

Deep purple (classic European iris) is the most-ordered, followed by pale blue and white. Yellow iris is rare and we usually only stock it on special order with 5 to 7 days lead time. The classic purple reads sophisticated and unexpected for Singapore recipients used to seeing roses and lilies.

Can I include iris in a mixed bouquet with other flowers?

Yes, iris pairs beautifully with white roses (classic European garden look), white peonies, hyacinths, and lavender. Avoid pairing with bright tropical flowers like orchids or Bird of Paradise as the aesthetic clash is too strong. WhatsApp us for custom mixed arrangements.
