Lilies and calla lilies, the elegant European flower with high romantic weight

Lilies are one of the most romantically weighted flowers in the European tradition, with associations to purity, devotion, and refined elegance going back to classical Greek and Roman culture. The Singapore Florist studio sources lilies from Dutch and local growers, stocking the main varieties: Oriental lilies (large fragrant blooms in white, pink, red), Asiatic lilies (smaller upturned blooms in vivid colours), stargazer lilies (the dramatic spotted pink-and-white classic), and calla lilies (the elegant smooth trumpet-shaped variety in white, pink, purple, and yellow). They are popular for weddings, sophisticated gifting, sympathy occasions, and the kind of recipient who appreciates a more dramatic flower than the standard rose.

Important caveats up front. Lilies are highly toxic to cats (a single petal can cause acute kidney failure), so we never recommend lilies for households with cats. Lilies also produce strong fragrance that can trigger nausea in recovering hospital patients and is banned in many Singapore hospital wards, so we steer customers away from lilies for get-well bouquets. Lilies do produce orange pollen that can stain fabric and skin, so we recommend removing the stamens before display (we do this in the studio before dispatch on request). For safer alternatives in pet-friendly homes or hospital deliveries, see our pet-friendly collection.

Pricing starts at SGD 98 for the small lily bouquet and reaches SGD 488 for the premium calla lily and stargazer arrangement. Most orders land in the SGD 128 to SGD 198 range. Every order ships free islandwide, includes a handwritten card, and arrives same-day for orders before 12pm if lilies are in stock that morning. For wedding-specific lily arrangements, see our bridal bouquets collection. For sympathy white lily standing tributes, see condolence flower stands. How we remove lily stamens to prevent pollen stains

Oriental and stargazer lilies produce a distinctive orange pollen on their stamens (the long protrusions in the centre of each flower). This pollen stains fabric, skin, and tablecloths if it transfers, and the stains are notoriously difficult to remove. Our standard protocol is to remove the stamens from each lily bloom in the studio before dispatch. We use clean tweezers to gently pull the stamens away from the bloom centre once the flower has opened, leaving the rest of the flower intact and beautiful. The recipient gets a stamen-free bouquet that is safe to display anywhere without worrying about pollen stains. If you specifically want the stamens kept (some traditional flower arranging styles prefer them), flag it in the order notes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are lilies safe to send to a household with cats?

NO. Lilies are highly toxic to cats. A single petal, drop of pollen, or even water from the lily vase can cause acute kidney failure within hours. NEVER send lilies to a household with cats. For pet-safe alternatives, see our pet-friendly collection.

What is the difference between Oriental, Asiatic, and stargazer lilies?

Oriental lilies have large fragrant blooms in white, pink, and red, with distinctive perfume. Asiatic lilies are smaller, upturned, and come in vivid colours (yellow, orange, red) with little to no fragrance. Stargazer lilies are a specific Oriental variety with dramatic pink-and-white spotted petals, and the most fragrant of all. Calla lilies are a separate species entirely, with elegant smooth trumpet-shaped blooms.

Can I send lilies to a hospital patient?

Generally no. Lilies have strong fragrance that triggers nausea in recovering patients, and many Singapore hospital wards specifically ban them. For hospital gifts, see our get well soon flowers collection which uses scent-safe alternatives like roses, carnations, and gerberas.

Why are calla lilies more expensive than regular lilies?

Calla lilies have a longer growing cycle, smaller per-stem yields from the producing farms, and a more delicate transport process. They are also one of the most photogenic wedding flowers, which keeps demand high. Expect calla lilies to cost roughly 1.5x to 2x the per-stem price of standard Oriental lilies.

What does a lily bouquet symbolise?

Purity, devotion, refined elegance, and high romantic weight. White lilies specifically symbolise pure love (popular for weddings) and remembrance (popular for sympathy). Pink lilies symbolise prosperity. Red lilies symbolise passionate love. Calla lilies symbolise sophistication and beauty. Read more on our flower meanings library blog.
